In the event of an inclement weather closing or school emergency, the district's emergency notification system will:
- call the primary phone number listed in MISTAR
Weather Related Closings and School Activities
Schools closely monitor the temperature and wind chill throughout the day and just prior to recess or other outdoor activities. Unless adverse weather conditions warrant otherwise, elementary students are expected to wait outside until the first bell and go outside for lunch and afternoon recess, even if only for a few minutes to get some fresh air.
As a general rule, once the decision is made, buildings are closed and activities canceled until the beginning of the next school day. If school is closed on a Friday, District buildings will be closed and activities canceled for the entire weekend. However, if conditions improve enough to operate on Saturday or Sunday, District officials will note the change on its website and on its telephone hotline.
The school district reserves the right to cancel school and activities in the event of questionable or inclement weather. We value instructional time with our students. As a result, we try to keep schools open if it’s safe to do so. However, when it comes to student safety, parents can always make the decision to keep their child(ren) at home in bad weather.
Weather Related Travel Between Buildings
At Plymouth-Canton Educational Park, administrators may hold students from passing between buildings at the scheduled time. Each hour an assessment is made to determine if it is safe to walk outside. Weather conditions are monitored throughout the school day.
Early Dismissal
In the event of early dismissal due to an emergency, please prepare your child in advance with instructions should they arrive home and you are not there. Give your child the name of a neighbor to go to or a phone number to call.
Emergency Lockdown
When school buildings are in lock-down, the district is following strict procedures as detailed in the P-CCS emergency response plan and coordinating with police and other emergency responders.
P-CCS priorities are:
- Student safety
- Securing the facility
- Cooperating with Police
- Communicating internally with students, teachers and staff
- Communicating with parents
- Communicating with Media
During certain emergencies, students may be instructed to not use their electronic devices for safety reasons, while reserving telephone capacity for emergency responders. Please avoid calling the school, district or your student during an emergency lockdown. Depending on the situation, parents may not be able to pickup students. When school and/or law enforcement officials indicate the lockdown is no longer necessary, parents will be notified with pickup information as appropriate.
Please review MISTAR (in advance of any emergency)
Review all MISTAR contact information (students and parents) for detailed information see the MISTAR services page.
