Welcome to Elementary School with P-CCS!
Plymouth-Canton Community Schools has fifteen elementary schools serving the culturally diverse needs of students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. One of these fifteen schools, Gallimore Elementary, supports grades 3-5 and is a dedicated space for the elementary-level TAG (Talented and Gifted) program. We also offer an elementary-level Virtual Academy. The elementary experience in all of our schools is designed to meet the needs of the whole child and includes support for the intellectual, social-emotional, and physical aspects of development.
Why P-CCS Elementary?
Each elementary school provides learning experiences to support the Michigan Academic Standards. Included in the guidelines from the State, specific standards are identified for the following academic areas: English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Additionally, students participate in art, music, physical education and innovation courses weekly. The use of technology-based tools to support content based instruction is embedded throughout the day. Each K-1 elementary student has access to an individual iPad and our students in grades 2-5 have an assigned Chromebook to use throughout the day.
The elementary experience offers:
- Experiences that support independent learning, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity
- Differentiated learning experiences to meet the needs of individual students
- Culturally relevant and responsive programming that supports student engagement and inclusion
- Daily class meetings and lessons to support social-emotional learning (SEL)
- Full-day kindergarten classes in all K-5 elementary buildings
- Young 5s kindergarten classes in all K-5 elementary buildings
- Five special area classes: physical education, art, music, innovation, and media/technology
- Daily recess
- Opportunities for student leadership such as safety patrol, student council, and student mentoring (buddies)
- Varied interest clubs such as Girls On The Run, Robotics, Chess, and LEGO
