P-CCS School Nurse Mission Statement
The mission of the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools School Nurses is to be proactive in issues that affect the health of children and to promote optimal learning in the educational setting. School nurses empower students to be well; they teach, treat, counsel, and support students to increase classroom seat time and decrease trips to the health office and absences from school.
School nurses support student health in a variety of ways. They teach students how to manage their own health and wellness. They monitor student immunization status. School nurses provide support and care for students with special healthcare needs/chronic conditions through care management and direct care, including medication administration and health procedures. School nurses use their public health expertise to advocate for healthier communities by leading school wellness teams and developing health and wellness policies addressing issues such as quality air, and barriers created by health disparities.
School nursing plays an essential role in keeping children healthy, safe, and ready to learn so that they may grow into healthy and productive adults.
"You can't educate children if they are not healthy and you can't keep children healthy if they are not educated."
- Jocelyn Elders, Former US Surgeon General
