A Message from Our Principal, Mrs. Bell

Dear Prospective Gallimore Family, 

Thank you for considering our school, Gallimore Elementary School, as you look for a learning environment that is just right for your child. At any point, as you peruse our site, if you have questions about the practices that make our school unique, please do not hesitate to contact me. 

Gallimore Elementary School is home to the P-CCS district's Talented and Gifted Program.  Our school's mission states that our program "focuses on meeting the academic, emotional, and social needs of our advanced learners. We are committed to helping our students achieve their greatest potential by providing engaging, appropriately challenging curriculum and instruction."  Our staff is dynamic in meeting the unique needs of the students we serve.

Academically, our teachers invest in formative assessments throughout each unit and daily lessons so that they have a strong understanding of what each child needs. This information helps our staff to provide an appropriately challenging learning experience. This can mean accelerating the curriculum, compacting lessons and/or giving students opportunities to slow down and dive deeper into the content. In our classrooms students are given opportunities to work independently, as a whole group and in partnerships to build meaning as a community. Student voice and choice are at the center of the learning environment we create here at Gallimore. Students have many opportunities to lead and share their learning and thinking with their classmates. Students are also given choice in most assignments. This choice allows students to explore topics of interest, express their learning in a way that is best for them and even learn from resources that meet their learning styles. At Gallimore we believe that developing the whole child is essential to developing citizens that can move forward in life and be productive contributors to the world. Our students have the potential to create and imagine anything and they are our future entrepreneurs and leaders.  We can help their dreams become a reality by helping them to also develop strong executive functioning skills, self regulation and character. We embed social and emotional support in all of our school structures. We do this by providing whole group lessons around concepts like growth mindset, empathy, tolerance, perseverance and gratitude. We coordinate school assemblies that compliment these focus topics and our school behavior support specialist teaches whole class, small group and individual lessons on topics that meet the specific social and emotional needs of our students. 

Our school practices restorative discipline and is working daily to create a school environment that reflects the principles behind this approach.  This approach fosters belonging, social engagement, and meaningful accountability over punishment.  One aspect of this approach that we practice regularly is a restorative conversation or circle. During this experience students are given an opportunity to reflect on their involvement/impact on others and an opportunity to hear from classmates and staff, as well. Often times students emerge from these discussions with a better understanding of how their actions impacted others and are more willing to change/reflect because they realize that their choices matter to others and can impact our entire school community.

We are proud of our school and always open to new ideas.  Together we can create a stronger school community. We hope to welcome you to the Gallimore School Community soon.
