Smaller Learning Communities at the Park
Smaller Learning Communities are a personalized, interdisciplinary approach to learning for 9th grade students.
The goal of our 9th grade Smaller Learning Communities (SLCs) is to assist students in making a successful transition from middle school to high school and to be able to offer rich interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Teams of two teachers (World History and World Literature) support approximately 60 students academically and foster connectedness with peers in smaller environments within students’ home buildings.
● The student’s SLC team (approximately 60 students) only applies to the students’ World History and World Literature classes in a two-hour block of time.
● Teachers may plan integrated lessons and projects, confer regularly regarding student progress, and take part in assemblies and field trips.
● Projects based learning and cross-curricular instruction between World History and World Literature may be explored.
