About Us
Our Mission
Starkweather Academy promotes lifelong learning by offering a comprehensive educational program addressing individual educational goals and preparing all students to achieve personal excellence and become successful contributing members of society.
Our Vision
As part of Plymouth-Canton Community Schools and the Plymouth-Canton community, we will provide an educational program that promotes the success of alternative and adult learners.
The Alternative/Adult Education program for the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is housed at Starkweather Academy. It includes a high school completion program, leading to a P-CCS diploma and a cap & gown graduation ceremony, as well as Adult English as A Second Language program. Basic Education and GED prep. We run 4 quarters on a traditional school calendar. Our students must have enrolled a full year at a high school and be at least sixteen-years old before September 1st of the current school year. We accept students from any district within the state of Michigan prior to the start of school in September.
High school classes meet daily from 9 a.m.-2:55 pm. in a block schedule that includes 3 classes and an academic support period, used to get extra help or earn additional credit through Independent Study. Adult classes generally meet 2 days a week for 2 to 3 hours depending on class and have both daytime and evening classes available. A standard full day student will take 3 classes for 4 quarters, up to 12 total in the year. In most cases the same as a traditional school plus the opportunity to earn more, if willing and able. Independent Study courses are offered throughout the the day to allow students to complete credits in an accelerated format. Students must contact transportation at 734-416-3032 to receive bus pick-up/drop off location and time.
Busing is available for in district students to school at 9:00 a.m. and home at 3:30 p.m. daily. Students must contact transportation at 734-416-3032 to receive bus pick-up/drop off location and time.
