East Clubs and Activities
BEAUX CHANTEURS
Beaux Chanteurs means Good Singers in French and it is a group of highly motivated vocalists selected by Mrs. Mason. Students with choral experience in the 7th and 8th grades may contact Mrs. Mason about joining this group. It is a Show Choir, which means that it performs many songs from the musical theater genre and includes choreography as well as singing in it's performances. This group is for the child that loves extra opportunities to perform! Students who are selected must elect Beaux Chanteurs as their Wednesday Wonder class
GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE (GSA)
The East GSA is a student-led club that aims to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment for all youths, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We hope to provide support, engage in educational activities, and awareness activities (like the National Day of Silence). All are welcome! Meetings are held on Fridays during AM Advisory in the Collaboration Room, 8:15-8:45.
MATHCOUNTS TEAM
This is a competition-based club where members must take a test to qualify for a spot. Members complete challenges and problems from the MATHCOUNTS series and compete for a spot on the MATHCOUNTS team to represent East at the district and state chapter competitions. MATHCOUNTS TEAM is run by East parents.
MATHCOUNTS Math Club is a national program that gives students in middle school the opportunity to play fun math games, compete in math challenges, and create a project in a relaxed, non-graded environment. East’s math club is run by Mrs. Formosa and is only available to sixth graders due to class size.
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY (NJHS)
There are currently 6 Robotics teams affiliated with East.
All Robotics teams compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), an annual competition to design, build, program, and compete with and against other teams to accomplish a unique challenge revealed every September.
Science Olympiad is a team-based program that encourages students with a strong interest in different areas of science to think and learn outside the box and compete as a team at various tournaments. It covers diverse areas including, life science, engineering, chemistry, experimentation and earth sciences. More information on the program can be found at https://miscioly.org/.
The East Science Olympiad team is parent-run and has consistently placed high in the regional (in March) and state (in April) tournaments every year. The club meets on Mondays after school for team meetings and students meet on their own to practice for their specific events (most of them participate in 3 events). Placement on varsity, JV or non-competitive group depends on a screening test taken at the beginning of the year. The coaches can be reached at eastscienceolympiad@pccsk12.com.
