Are professional counselors and certified teachers with a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. We have extensive training in human growth and development, guidance theories and strategies, testing and measurement, and career development. What is Counseling?
Counseling is a confidential interaction between a professionally trained counselor and a student or small group of students. Counselors help students, staff, and parents by:

• Developing programs that promote healthy life-styles and build positive school climate.
  presenting classroom lessons on topics which may include high school and career planning, coping with change, friendships, self image, diversity, and study skills.
• Meeting with parents, teachers, and students to help support and encourage a successful school experience.
• Offering small support groups when needed on issues such as changing families, developing friendships, grieving, self esteem, and anger management.
• Interpreting standardized test scores to promote awareness about a student’s strengths and progress.
• Advising students on class selection and academic opportunities.
• Coordinating mentoring opportunities and support services for at-risk students.

Scheduling an Appointment
Counselor meetings a re available to students throughout the school day. Any student can come into the general office to meet with their counselor. The counselor will call the student down (usually the same day) if they are not directly available.
Parents can contact their child’s guidance counselor by calling 416-7600 or the counselors’ numbers directly.The focus of school counseling is to provide short-term, solution-based guidance to help students with difficult issues. When necessary a counselor will contact the parent to refer the student to an outside agency for additional support and evaluation.

Confidentiality
When a student shares information it will remain confidential unless:
1) The student and counselor agree to share the information with another person.
2) The counselor is concerned that the student may cause harm to self or others.
3) The student informs the counselor of neglect, abuse, or another violation of the child protection act.
