CELL-PHONE POLICY 24-25
WMS recognizes the importance of communication and collaboration, and provides devices for students to be productive in the classroom. To keep the focus on academics and to reduce unnecessary distractions, the school will be enforcing the following:
-
Cell phones and all mobile devices shall be TURNED OFF upon entering the building at 8:00 am until dismissal at 3:09 pm.
-
Cell phones and all mobile devices shall be kept in a student’s locker – not in clothing pockets or in pencil cases.
-
Cell phones and all mobile devices are not allowed to be used in locker rooms or restrooms at any time.
-
In rare cases, cell phones may be used in a classroom when directed by the teacher and for academic purposes only.
-
If a student needs to make an emergency call during the day, they should come to the office to place a call.
Consequences and Family Communication:
Students using phones or electronic devices without authorization:
-
First time will be asked to surrender his/her phone to the teacher and can pick up the phone from the office at the end of the day.
-
Second time will be asked to surrender his/her phone to the teacher and can pick up the phone from the office at the end of the day, and the student will serve a lunch detention the following day.
-
Third time there will be a meeting with administration to create a personal electronics plan/contract.
We ask that families and students use the main office when communicating messages from home or school.
EARLY DISMISSAL - If your student is going to leave school early, we ask that you send in a note with your child and have them come to the office before school for a pass. The office will give the student a pass, allowing them to be dismissed at the time requested. The Parent/Guardian must come to the front door, ring the bell and present their driver's license to the camera, so that we may verify that a parent is the person picking up the student. If the student returns, they must report to the office upon returning, a parent signature is not required to return to class. If possible, try to arrange pick-up times to coincide with passing time, this will avoid disruption to the classroom.
FORGOTTEN LUNCHES, HOMEWORK, ETC. - Please drop off LABELED items on the table just inside the front doors. West has monitors upstairs and downstairs to inform students items have arrived, by using this system we do not have to interrupt the classrooms. Also, students may use the office phone before school, during passing time, lunch time and after school.
HOMEWORK REQUESTS - Students that are out for an extended period of time should be monitoring class work through Canvas.
LUNCH MENUS - The lunch menus and pricing information for all schools may be found on the Food and Nutrition page. Information and application forms for the Free and Reduced Meals program are also available at this site.
MISTAR - Information regarding MISTAR ParentConnection. Students may also access MISTAR StudentConnection.
MOVED - Have you recently moved or will you be moving soon? Please use this link to access the electronic address change form. Please complete the form and attach your two required proof of residency documents. Once this has been completed you will be notified via email.
PARENT PICK-UP OF STUDENTS DURING SCHOOL TIME - Parents must come main door entrance to the building and show their ID to the camera so that we may verify identity prior to dismissing the student. It is helpful to send a note with your student indicating an early dismissal. Your student should bring that note to the office in the morning so that office staff may provide a pass to your student. If your student returns to school after an appointment or arrives late to school, he/she must come to the office and sign in, a parent signature is not required to sign back in.
PARENT PICK-UP AT AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES- We would like to request that you please pick up students from the after-school activities within 15 minutes of the conclusion of the event. School personnel will supervise students until they are picked up although students who are not picked up within the 15 minute limit may be excluded from the next activity.
VACATIONS/HOLIDAYS - If you are planning a vacation during scheduled school days, we ask that you fill out a Student Absence: Family Vacation / Holiday During Scheduled School Hours form. Students will need to have each teacher sign the form and turn into the office. Click here to download the vacation form.
VISITORS TO THE BUILDING- Visitors, including parents, are asked to adhere to the current mitigation plan based on current risk levels. At this time we are limiting the number of visitors entering the building. If you have been invited to come to the building, please report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor’s pass.
VOLUNTEERS- There are many volunteer opportunities at West. It is necessary for all parents/guardians who will be chaperoning field trips or volunteering in a classroom to provide information for a criminal conviction/background check. If you are chosen as a volunteer for any reason, the teacher/advisor will have the ICHAT link emailed to you, for completion; the district is no longer posting the ICHAT link on the website.
